We use a number of highly-effective adjusting approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. The approach we use is based on our judgment and years of experience.
Chiropractic adjusting technique.
The primary adjusting techniques we use include:
Diversified Technique
This technique is the most widely used of all the chiropractic treatments. It is the classic chiropractic technique, developed by D.D. Palmer, DC. and taught in all chiropractic colleges..
After identifying which spinal bones have lost their normal motion or position, the chiropractor uses manual adjustments to treat subluxations of the spine and joints. It involves high-velocity and low-amplitude thrusts which are often accompanied by a 'clicking' or 'popping' sound (cavitation). This sound may be interesting, but is not a guide as to the value or effectiveness of the adjustment.
Thompson Technique
The Thompson Technique uses a unique "Segmental Drop Table" with pneumatic driven drop pieces for adjusting the dorsal, lumbar, and pelvic regions of the spine, which quickly lowers the section of the patient’s body corresponding with the spinal region being adjusted practitioner thrusts at high speed, using minimal force, because while the thrust initiates movement, the fast drop carries the joint through the remainder of its range of motion. An important procedure of the Thompson Technique is the "Leg Length System" an analysis system which is used to determine if there is any imbalance in the length of the legs while the patient is in a prone position on the table.
Activator Methods
The Activator is a hand held spring loaded instrument that has been specifically designed to deliver a controlled, low-force, but high speed adjustment without undue strain to the patient. It is based on a dynamic approach in which biomechanical lesions are isolated through patient movements designed to identify the exact areas of dysfunction. The thrust delivered by this instrument is so quick that it accelerates ahead of the body’s own tendency to tighten up and resist the thrust of an adjustment. The accuracy and control of Activator is suitable for all types of patients ranging from pregnant women, babies and children, to athletes and senior citizens. |
